Factory worker arrested in Edo for threatening to kidnap and murder his employer

The men of the Nigeria Police Force Edo State Command, have arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly threatening to kidnap and murder his boss while asking him to pay N10m.

The suspect identified as Mike Ashien, was employed in a domestic oil-producing factory in Ugbogui community, Ovia South-West local government area of Edo state.

WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that the suspect hid his mobile phone number to call the owner of the factory to pay the sum of ten million naira ransom or have him kidnapped and murdered.

The boss was said to have fled from Edo state out of fear after reporting the matter to the State Commissioner of Police, Philip Ogbadu, who ordered an extensive investigation into the matter.

The Commissioner directed men of the Anti Kidnapping and Cybercrime Unit of the State Police Command to commence investigation. The suspect was arrested while still working in the factory.

The victim said he employed the suspect three months ago.

The suspect confessed to the crime saying that he needed money to solve some urgent family issues.

“I wanted money to fix some urgent family issues and decided to threaten my boss because he has money. He pays me N20,000 monthly, and it is not enough for me at all and l just threatened him to get more money. I am now regretting,” he said

Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the command, SP Bello Kontongs said the police used serious technical means to arrest the suspect.

“I can confirm the arrest of the man who threatened his boss with Kidnapping and murder or have him pay a ransom. He will be prosecuted diligently.” Kontongs stated.
