#EdoDecides2024: INEC Begins Uploading Election Results To IREV Portal
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced uploading the results from the Saturday, September 21 governorship election in Edo State onto its Result Viewing Portal.
As of 4:12 PM, a total of 50.67% (2,439 of 4,519) of the results from the Edo governorship election have been uploaded to the INEC IReV portal.
It would be recalled that the Edo Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Anugbum Onuoha, had revealed that the ongoing governorship election results will be transmitted electronically.
According to Onuoha, only poor network can stop the electronic transmission of results.
In an interview with Arise Television on Saturday, Onuoha emphasized that INEC has prepared for contingencies by providing 660 backup Bimodal Voter Accreditation Systems (BVAS).
Onuoha further detailed the process, stating that the BVAS will be used to accredit voters and determine the total number of participants at each polling unit.
“You know that we have 4,519 pulling units across the 18 local governments, and so far we have deployed 4,622 BVAS to the various local governments. And we also have a backup of 660 BVAS.
“We have trained the operators for the BVAS. They are set. BVAS is to accredit the voters, to know the total number of voters that will vote at that level, that pulling unit.
“After that, then the voters will now start voting. At the end of the day, they will count the results, and it will be uploaded to our IReV.
“That is the state we are now. To be rest assured that we’ll conduct an election that we can call our own,” he stated.
When asked if all election results would be transmitted electronically, Onuoha confirmed, “Yes, unless there is no network in that place. If not, it will. We will transmit it.”
