#EdoDecides2024: Election Stops At Ikpoba Over Faulty BVAS Machines

There was a setback in the ongoing governorship election in Edo State after the Biamodial Voters Accreditation (BVAS) devices being used at Ikpoba Okha ward 7, Unit 39, in Benin, failed.

Naija News learnt that the voting began around 8 a.m. at Ikpoba Ward 7, unit 39, but was unfortunately stopped a few minutes later.

This particular unit, situated within Ologboshere Primary School, is home to 838 registered voters.

Reports, however, revealed that the voting in other areas of the school is proceeding without any issues.

Vanguard quoted an Adhoc official at unit 39, who wished to remain anonymous, to have mentioned that the INEC was made aware of the malfunctioning BVAs.

“We are waiting for another BVA so that the process could not be adversely affected,’’ he said.

It was reported that election materials arrived at the centre before 8 a.m., while voting started at 8 a.m.

An elderly woman at the unit, Mrs Helen Osagie, who spoke to journalists on the delay, said she arrived in a unit about 7:00 a.m.

She spoke positively of the peaceful conduct of the election and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to replace the faulty machines on time.

“INEC should act fast to replace the faulty machines in order not to disenfranchise most of us at the polling unit,” she said.

Meanwhile, one Mr Paul Eromosele, who voted at Ward 7 unit 39, commended the peaceful process.

“For now, there is peace here and everything is okay; I voted and it was not stressful and we pray the exercise ends peacefully,” he prayed.
