Concerns As Labour Party Dissolves Rivers Excos Ahead of Guber, House of Assembly Polls

Different concerns have been raised by supporters of the Labour Party as the leadership of the party, on Tuesday, announced the dissolution of the executive council of its Rivers State branch with immediate effect ahead of the March 11 governorship and state assembly elections.

The dissolution was made public in a statement signed by the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure.

Abure said the state officials of the party were axed for gross anti-party activities and corruption in the management of LP funds.

The development is coming in the wake of reports that the state chapter of the LP has collapsed its structure to endorse the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Sim Fubara.

But rising from an emergency meeting of the National Working Committee in Abuja, Abure stated that the move to dissolve the executives was in the interest of the Labour Party and the ‘Obidient’ movement in Rivers State.

He further stated that those who were at the helm of affairs in Rivers State, where the presidential mandate of the party’s standard bearer, Peter Obi, was openly stolen should step aside until a full investigation into what happened at the last election is completed.

“The National Working Committee has lost confidence in the ability of the compromised State Executive Council led by Mr. Deinye Pepple to lead the campaign for the gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections come March 11th.

“The National Working Committee urges all Obidients in Rivers State to disregard every comment made by the disgraced State Chairman of the Labour Party, Deinye Pepple, on the election of March 11th and reiterates the full backing of the Labour Party on the candidacy of Comrade Beatrice Itubo of the Labour Party as the next Governor of Rivers State.

“The National Working Committee, therefore, enjoins all Obidients to come out massively on March 11th to vote for Comrade Beatrice Itubo of the Labour Party,” he said.
