Commotion As Rep Members Walk Out Of Plenary Over Twitter Ban Talks
The lower chamber of Nigeria’s bicameral National Assembly went out of order on Tuesday morning during a plenary session.
Naija News understands that the commotion started after Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus leader, Kingsley Chinda, was ruled out of order by the House of Representatives Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Mr Chinda is said to have prayed that the Twitter ban imposed by the federal government be suspended in the interim. The opposition of the motion, however, stirred uproar as lawmakers and some members of the opposition party staged a walkout.
The lawmakers later briefed journalists at the press centre. Chinda, the PDP caucus leader who spoke on behalf of the lawmakers said the House will move an official motion tomorrow to that effect.
Though he acknowledged that the motion may as well be rejected by the House, but insist the lawmakers will move the motion notwithstanding.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has said that the ruling party has begun preparations to receive some PDP governors in the run-up to the 2023 general elections.
Recall that Naija News recently reported that Cross Rivers Governor Ben Ayade has switched from the PDP to the APC.
With this is speculation Zamfara state governor, Bello Matawalle, might return APC at any time, Naija News understands.
Ganduje made the remarks at the Kano State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja during a courtesy visit by the APC Registration Committee chaired by Farouk Adamu Aliyu.
