Atiku Is Old And Frail, Tinubu Is Sick – Fr Kelvin Reacts To Viral Videos

2023:'Nigerians Don't Need Atiku, Tinubu’s Political Experiences'

A popular Catholic priest, Rev Fr Kelvin Ugwu, has reacted to viral videos of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) counterpart Atiku Abubakar.

Naija News reports that a video of the APC flag bearer had gone viral on Sunday. Tinubu had shared the video to dispel rumours that have called his health into question.

Similarly, another video of Atiku dancing to a song by a popular artiste also went viral on Sunday.

Reacting, via his verified Facebook page, the clergyman stated that the videos show the weakness of the two presidential candidates.

Fr Kelvin argued that the videos have exposed their need for validation and have shown how physically weak they are.

He opined that the two politicians are greedy and have also surrounded themselves with greedy people who have refused to give them honest opinions about their presidential ambitions.

He wrote, “I never knew Atiku is this old. I never knew Tinubu is this sick. The dance video exposed Atiku as one who is really old and frail.

“The cycling video exposed Tinubu as one who is so sick and in need of validation with any video, even if it is an old video.

“The big problem with both of them is greed. The biggest problem with both of them is that those around them are more greedy. They successfully surrounded themselves with sycophants and parasites than true and genuine lovers who would tell them the truth to their faces.

The joy is that we have an alternative. For a long time now, there has never been the third force in our elections, we have not had the privilege of having the man in the middle”.

2023: PDP Is Dead And Buried In Ebonyi – Umahi

2023: Obidient Rallies Do Not Guarantee Peter Obi's Victory - Umahi

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has no standing structure in his state.

Speaking on Monday during his appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme, Umahi said the opposition party is “dead and buried” in the South East state.

The Ebonyi governor added that the major opposition party cannot be reckoned with in the political discussion in the state and cannot be considered as a serious party.

He said: “Every state is built on the performances of the governor. I have performed and it’s not about the party, it’s about the leadership of the state.

“There is no PDP in Ebonyi state, and if you’ve witnessed our programmes of late, you’d have noticed the number of people that came out.

“So, the PDP should not even talk. They are not even second in ranking in Ebonyi state. So there’s nothing like structure.”

The Ebonyi governor said the delay in the commencement of the APC’s presidential campaign will not hurt the party’s chances at the polls.

“We have many months to elections and we have many months to campaign,” he said.

“The first to start does not translate to the first to finish. So, the APC is a bank and they are coming up with programmes. It will soon happen.”

2023: It’s Not About First To Start, APC Will Soon Overtake Labour Party – Umahi Boasts

Umahi also declared that the early campaigns of the Labour Party do not automatically guarantee victory for the party in the 2023 polls.

This is as he boasted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will overtake the LP when the ruling party commences its rallies and mobilisation nationwide.

He stated this when he was asked about the seeming delay in the commencement of the APC presidential campaigns while the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have rolled out some programmes including rallies in major cities.

Defending the delay from APC, Umahi said it is nothing to worry about and there is still enough time to run credible campaigns.

He said: “We have many months to elections and we have many months to campaign. The first to start does not translate to the first to finish. So, the APC is a bank and they are coming up with programmes. It will soon happen.”

He added that the APC holds the edge over other parties in terms of “mass mobilisation, in terms of acceptability”.

Tinubu’s Trip To London Not On Health Grounds – APC Chieftain Explains

Tinubu's Trip To London Not On Health Issues – APC Chieftain Explains

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Hon. Yakubu Ajaka has given clarification on reports making the rounds that the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, travelled to London over health issues.

Tinubu is reported to have departed Nigeria for London in September. The former Governor of Lagos State’s absence at the signing of the peace accord by presidential candidates in the coming 2023 elections, raised eyebrows and a barrage of speculations from citizens.

Aside from the claims that the presidential hopeful had travelled for medical treatments, there were also speculations that Tinubu had withdrawn from the 2023 presidential race.

Tinubu has since refuted the claims on Twitter after sharing a video clip of himself doing a workout on a fitness bike.

To further affirm that the presidential candidate is hale and hearty, Ajaka who visited Tinubu in London last week stated in a statement press release dated Sunday, October 2, that the APC chieftain is doing fine.

“Contrary to the widespread speculation in the public space which was hugely circulated by our political opponents that Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu was on a medical trip in London. It is totally false,” Ajaka noted in the communique.

Ajaka reiterated that Tinubu was vacating in London, and was there most importantly to meet with different interest groups for the advancement of the country.

He added that Tinubu was a man of resounding political and administrative experience, who had a sound and vast understanding of Nigeria’s diversity and would deploy this knowledge into leadership when elected.

Ajaka said further that among other things, the APC presidential candidate would deploy his stern desire to unify the nation and inclusion of youths to drive the policy of the country.

The APC chieftain added that among those contesting the nation’s number one political seat in the 2023 general election, Tinubu stood tall with a very humbling track record.

2023: APC Campaign Council Fixes Date To Hold Inaugural Meeting

2023: APC Campaign Council Fixes Date To Hold Inaugural Meeting

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has fixed a date for its inaugural meeting.

Naija News gathered that the inaugural meeting would take place on Tuesday, October 4 at the PPC Headquarters in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

A source told This Day that the meeting would involve all Directors and PCC leaders in all the states of the Federation.

Recall that the ruling party had on September 28 scheduled a peace walk and prayers to officially kick off campaigns for the 2023 presidential election, but was suspended indefinitely.

Thereafter, the ruling party released the list of the 422-member campaign council, which caused a disagreement between members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

The APC NWC disregarded the list and accused Tinubu of running a one-man show and ignoring the agreement he made with them before the list of members was released.

In a leaked letter purportedly written by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the party asked Tinubu to withdraw the 422-member list.

Reacting to the development in a statement, the party’s spokesman, Felix Morka, said the party chairman did not write the letter for the withdrawal of the council list.

Nevertheless, APC decided to expand the membership of the council to over 2,000 to accommodate all interests and prevent the party from drifting as the February 28 presidential election approached.

She said, “I shared the post because I have seen her (Abubakar) go through pain. If those people ‘dragging’ (criticising) her go through the pain, they may not survive it. I shared the post because friends are supposed to support and stand by each other through pain, criticism and tears. It is not just during enjoyment, laughter and joyous celebrations you know true friends, but in moments like this.”

Describing the personality of Halima Abubakar, she said, “Halima is one selfless, strong and sweet lady I know. She is a giver. I have yet to see a person that hides her pain just to cheer up a friend that is sad. If minding one’s business was a person, that would be Halima. However, don’t step on her toes. She is always there to give me advice.”

2023: Why Ayu Should Immediately Resign – Ex-PDP Spokesman

PDP Crisis: Why Ayu Should Immediately Resign - Fayose's Aide

Lere Olayinka, spokesman to the former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has asked the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu, to resign from office.

Naija News reports that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and some members of the party have consistently called for Ayu’s resignation in the interest of fairness and equity.

Wike and his allies have said Ayu should vacate his position in order to allow a Southerner becomes the party’s chairman following the emergence of a Northerner, Atiku Abubakar, as the party presidential candidate.

Reacting to the development in a chat with The Punch at the weekend, Olayinka asked Ayu to immediately resign in the interest of balance, unity, and the interest of peace in the party.

The former spokesman of the opposition party added that Ayu’s resignation will enhance the chances of the party in the 2023 general election.

He said: “There are two sides to a coin. If you ask me, I will tell you that in the interest of balancing he should go. But nobody is saying Ayu should be removed, saying somebody should resign is different from saying he should be removed.

“Resign in the interest of balance, unity, and the interest of peace in the party. If I were to be in his shoes, I will weigh my options and ask myself – if I resign, will it increase the chances of the party in the election? If my resignation will enhance the chances of the party in the election, I will not wait a second before resigning.

“For instance, if people say if I drop my House of Representatives ticket, it will be easier to win the presidential election, then I will drop it.

Wike vs Atiku: PDP BoT May Back Ayu’s Removal, Uncomfortable With Arapaja

Pressure is being mounted on the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, to resign for peace to return to the main opposition party.

It was gathered on Sunday that the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) might ask him to quit for a candidate from the South.

Naija News reports that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and his allies, known as the G-5, have called for Ayu’s removal or resignation as a condition to begin peace talks and be involved in the presidential campaign of the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The group had accused the PDP chairman of being partial during the party’s presidential primaries, asking Ayu to give way to a southerner after promising to resign if a northern presidential candidate emerged.

According to The Nation, the PDP BoT members are set to meet with Wike and his group tomorrow in Port-Harcourt, the state capital, to deliberate on options for resolving the crisis of confidence in the party.

It is, however, unclear if Atiku or Ayu will accept the recommendation of the BoT led by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara.

Sources revealed that Ayu was planning an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to discuss the decision of some members to return the money paid into their bank accounts by the party in controversial circumstances.

Sources said the decision to ask Ayu to step aside was arrived at when some influential BoT members met in Abuja last Friday.

It was gathered that the affected leaders warned against ignoring five of 11 PDP governors and concluded that the party’s chances in the 2023 presidential poll could be jeopardized if the protracted crisis was not resolved.

While some BoT members were against succumbing to Wike’s demand, the Committee placed more concern on resolving the crisis.

The source said: “We were at a crossroads. We knew Wike and others have been contemptuous of our candidate and undermining PDP’s chances, but we need them to win the presidency.

“Our greatest headache is losing the support of five out of 11 PDP governors because we want to retain Ayu.

“The mess over the housing allowance paid to the members of the NWC has created a reputation challenge for the party.

“We resolved to advise Ayu to put the interest of the party above his own by resigning or stepping aside. It is a great sacrifice, but he will remain a hero.

“Some leaders are even suggesting that Ayu can be compensated with the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation if Atiku wins.

“The way we are now, Ayu is the issue in the party, and we must address the challenge around him squarely. He has to leave the office for a candidate from the South.”

Another BoT member said: “At our meeting, we made up our minds to go the whole hog to appease Wike and other governors who are aggrieved and other leaders.

“We will send our advisory to all the organs of the party to consider the recommendation dispassionately.

“It is left to these constitutional organs to accept or reject our advisory.”

Constitutional Lacuna

It was learned that while Wike’s camp is banking on the replacement of Ayu by the Deputy National Chairman (South), Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, some party leaders have argued Ayu should be replaced by Deputy National Chairman (North), Umar Damagum, as the party’s constitution states.

An old BoT member told The Nation: “We are constrained by the constitutional provision. But some of our leaders are saying that to allow a Southerner to succeed Ayu, the Deputy National Chairman (North), Umar Damagum, must resign too.

“Wike’s camp may favour the resignation of the Deputy National Chairman (North) too. This may lead to a deeper crisis in the party.”

He added: “Atiku’s fate in the party will now be left in the hands of Wike’s camp, which has produced the National Secretary of the party, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu. It will be dangerous to have the entire party structure under the control of Wike’s group.

“Some of our leaders are also uncomfortable with Arapaja on how he handled the housing allowance matter. They can’t understand why he openly challenged Ayu on the rent stipends.

“This is why BoT members have been consulting on the advisory on Ayu that they are pushing.

“I think Tuesday’s meeting in Port Harcourt may lead to a far-reaching negotiation.”

2023: Why Peter Obi Is Better Than Tinubu, Atiku, Others – Ezekwesili

A former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili over the weekend gave reasons why the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi is better than other candidates contesting the 2023 election.

She stated that though Obi has been in politics in the past as well, he represents a breath of fresh air compared to other front runners in the 2023 presidential race.

Naija News reports Ezekwesili made her view known while speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

She submitted that Nigeria is suffering from bad leadership but the former Anambra State Governor represents a ray of hope for the country out of the bad leadership situation.

Ezekwesili said: “somebody says to you between a cast of possible presidents that include the three frontrunners that we currently have – a possible President Tinubu, Atiku, and Obi – do you need anybody to tell you where you would be going? It would be an Obi.”

She added that though Obi also belongs to the political order in the country, he is still way ahead of other presidential candidates set to take part in the 2023 polls.

“Regardless of the fact that he comes from that particular political class that we are talking about, he still at least represents many more shapes than the other two top candidates (Atiku and Tinubu),” she added.

2023: Orbih Speaks On Decision To Pay NWC Members Housing Allowance

The National Vice Chairman (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Orbih, has denied being part of the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) to pay housing allowance to members.

Naija News earlier reported that the PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, said it was a collective decision of the NWC to give each member a housing allowance.

According to the media aide to the PDP Chairman, Simon Imobo-Tswam, the allowance is statutory and legal, adding that the money paid into the accounts of the PDP NWC members was not for inducement.

In an interview with The Punch, Orbih, who was part of the NWC members who returned the N122.4 million, denied the claim by the party that the money was meant for their housing allowance.

The PDP chieftain said he had cleared his conscience and had no reason to lie about the circumstances surrounding the money.

He said, “I don’t want to talk about Ayu. I speak for myself. I have done what I feel is needful. I have given reasons for doing what I have done. Let every man carry the full weight of his problem. Ayu should speak for himself. He is an adult. It was very clear in my letter.

“If it is in a civilised society, people should be praising and commending us for what we have done. Instead, they will be asking them questions to make them justify what they did. It is wrong.

“They, first of all, said it was a loan. I asked where is my loan application. And if it is a loan, where is the repayment plan by me, signed between me and the party? And I asked the third question, when has PDP turned into a bank that gives loans to people?

“That was how they ran away from there and started saying it is accommodation allowance. Is it the house you want them to pay for (rent not buy) made of gold or is it diamond built? 90 per cent of us, including Ayu, have a house here in Abuja. So, I don’t know. What is the take-home of Nigeria’s President, including accommodation allowance? What is bad is bad.

“I am not taking any steps. We have done what our conscience says is the right thing to do. Every person has a conscience, a name to protect. If others do not feel there is nothing wrong with it, that is their business. I didn’t say other people should do it or not do it. They all have their consciences.

Orbih also denied the claim by Ayu that the NWC collectively decided to give each member a housing allowance, saying most of the members have a house in Abuja.

He, however, challenged the embattled PDP chairman to show evidence that NWC members took a decision to pay the said amount into their accounts.

He said: “I even saw in a paper on Sunday that such thing was brought before the NWC, the decision was taken by every person, the decision was taken in a meeting. I have challenged them that they should produce the minutes of the meeting and the date the meeting took place and who voted for that and who did not.

“I can tell you for sure that there was no meeting that the issue came to the NWC. I have never seen a country like this. Some said the money was paid on the 14th and why did it take me over 5-6 days? With the type of insecurity in this country, how many people put alerts on their phones?

“I normally reconcile my account at the end of every month. The story by a paper on September 26 was what triggered off this whole crisis. If not, I would have seen it at the end of the month.

2023: Why Peter Obi Is Better Than Tinubu, Atiku, Others – Ezekwesili

2023: Why Obi Is Better Than Tinubu, Atiku, Others - Ezekwesili

A former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili has given reasons why the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi is better than other candidates contesting for the 2023 election.

In her words, “somebody says to you between a cast of possible presidents that include the three frontrunners that we currently have – a possible President Tinubu, Atiku, and Obi – do you need anybody to tell you where you would be going? It would be an Obi.”

She added that though Obi also belongs to the political order in the country, he is still way ahead of other presidential candidates set to take part in the 2023 polls.

“Regardless of the fact that he comes from that particular political class that we are talking about, he still at least represents many more shapes than the other two top candidates (Atiku and Tinubu),” she added.

Ezekwesili then praised the youths of the country for their awakened interest in the political happenings in the country and described it as a good development.

She added that the re-awakening started with the famous #EndSARS protest in 2020.

“Sometimes, I just imagine what leadership will be in the country if they just listened (to youths),” she noted.
