PDP, Atiku To Give Senate Presidency To S/West, S/East For SGF

Wike Reveals Only Way Atiku Can Win 2023 Presidency

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and leaders of the party have reportedly zoned the Senate Presidency to the South-West.

Naija News gathered that this was done to garner support for the party’s presidential candidate.

In a new power-sharinf deal, Atiku agreed that the region should produce the next Senate President, while the South-East should get the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

To give further bite for a possible inroad into the southeast, the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) has been zoned to the region,” a former member of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) told Vanguard.

The source expressed worry over the decision of the Governor Nyesom Wike’s group to pull out of Atiku’s presidential campaign and the return of the ‘housing allowance’ giving to some members of the PDP NWC.

He said “To say that the issues are not disturbing is to be delusional; the coincidence was shocking and meant to destabilise us but we will overcome.

“The national chairman had to cut short his medical leave and return so that the issues could be addressed because the development has really affected the southwest more.

“And quite frankly, Ayu, our presidential candidate and a few others have met over the weekend to review earlier power equations and permutations in order to strengthen weak areas.”

The sour e stated that Atiku and the PDP leaders had earlier zoned the SGF to the Southwest and the Speakership to the southeast.

“But from all indications, the southeast power brokers within the party are more interested in the position of the SGF.

“Incidentally, those of us who believe in the Atiku Presidency is of the opinion that the party must review its earlier stance of zoning the senate president slot to the northwest,” he said.

He added that “So at it is now, it is the southwest that will produce the next senate president because the earlier position of northwest would have empowered a section too much; there must be balance.”

2023: Tinubu’s Presidency Threatened As South-South APC Stakeholders Allege Hate On Amaechi

2023: Tinubu's Presidency Threatened As South-South APC Stakeholders Allege Hate On Amaechi

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-South zone have warned the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party leadership to immediately address their grievances, or else they will not vote for him in February 2023 election.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Monday, the politicians alleged that the party leadership do not like former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and is not treating party stakeholders from the zone with respect.

Naija News understands that the party chieftains stated this at a one-day consultive meeting held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital on Sunday, October 2, 2023.

As contained in the statement obtained by The PUNCH, the meeting comprises the national assembly and state house of assembly candidates and other party chieftains.

The politicians also expressed their displeasure over Tinubu and some party chieftain’s consistent meeting with Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.

They Do Not Like Amaechi

Speaking of the party leadership hating on Amaechi, the state APC chairman, Emeke Beke, who said he was speaking as an individual, expressed dismay that none of the party members from the zone whose names were submitted to the national level of the party made the list of the APC presidential campaign council.

Beke told Chief Victor Giadom to relate their grievances to the national level when he returns that the state APC chairmen in the zone took a position and have written to the President and the national officers in that regard, even as he called for a refund of 25 per cent from the proceeds of the sale of forms in the state.

He said: “We have written to the President, to the national chairman, to the candidate (Tinubu), to the chairman of the governors’ forum and the Director General of the campaigns.

“You people asked us to nominate five, five names for campaign council. None of the five names we sent appeared on the list because they don’t like Rotimi Amaechi. From the zone, no one (names) appeared. And the chairmen have taken a position on that. We will down our tool.

“As you go back tell the national chairman that Rivers State bought forms of over one billion naira. And what we are asking, remit to the state 25 per cent of that money.”

Beke stressed that if the money is not remitted to Rivers State, the party leadership should forget about coming to Rivers State to campaign for a presidential candidate.

He said: “We will vote for our national assembly state house of assembly candidates and focus on the governorship candidate of this state and we will win.

“The truth is that what has happened to Rivers State is because they don’t like Rotimi Amaechi. I speak as Emeka Beke, not as Rivers APC Chairman.

“I have heard and seen Wike’s comments on Television and social media respectively. Wike dines with leaders of our great party. If the national does not listen to the APC Rivers State, we will take our destiny in our hands.”

According to him, PDP’s Governor Wike does not have the political spread to win an election.

He said the opposition member was only luring leaders of the party with financial inducement, “even as he expressed worry that respected leaders of the party are constantly visiting the state and dining with Wike just a few months to the general poll.”

Beke added: “We have been out of government for eight years. Now we want to win elections. I can tell you that Wike does not have the political base to win an election in Rivers State.

“What Wike is doing is giving the bride to leaders of our own party to shortchange the APC family in Rivers State.

“My candidates and members in Rivers State have suffered. Candidates are selling their land, selling their property to make sure they win an election and keep the APC in power.

“Then leaders that we look up to will come here and campaign. At the end of the day, they will dine with Governor Wike at night. Please tell them not to dine with Governor Wike again. Let them support this party in the state. We don’t have a super minister because they don’t like one man.

“We are party men, but tell them if they don’t support us we will not support them.”

I Know That Everything You Have Said Is True

Having listened to the party stakeholders, the APC national vice chairman, South-South and former acting national chairman of the party, Chief Giadom, admitted that all that was said is true.

He expressed his gratitude to the party faithful for their frank comments and contributions. Giadom said: “This is my own constituency and I am from Rivers State. I know exactly that everything that you have said here is true.

“Everybody in Nigeria knows that what you are complaining about is true. From the speaker (Femi Gbajabiamila), Governor Fayemi, and Governor Akeredolu, all came here (Rivers) to commission projects, and by doing it, praised Governor Wike.

“By doing that you are marketing our opponents against the APC. So we will put it to them, we will make them know.

“I can also tell you that we are passing through very tough times.”

Conversing with newsmen shortly after the meeting, the party chieftain said, “The reason why we are here, is to collect what we feel are the challenges in the party, with the aim of providing solutions for them or be ready to face the consequences.

“We have come, we have listened to them, we have heard them clearly, and we are going to put them together and report to the national party in Abuja to ensure that we find solutions to all the things that we know will help us win election in Rivers State.

“I know the pains of my people, which is also our collective pain. We were not on the ballot in 2019, which of course we know that I was supposed to be a direct beneficiary of that ticket.”

Giadom added: “But the manipulation of the system denied us from being on that ballot. So, people have the right to be apprehensive, they have the right to be worried.

“But I can assure them that, by the grace of God, we will be victorious this time around and APC would win in Rivers State and recapture back our possession of becoming in charge of Rivers State leadership and we will form a government and be in government house.”

2023 Presidency: It Is Not Yoruba’s Turn To Be President – Adebutu

2023 Presidency: It Is Not Yoruba’s Turn To Be President – Adebutu

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu, has said it is not the turn of the South West to produce the next President.

He stated that the North-East should be allowed to produce President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor, adding that the region has never produced Nigeria’s leader before.

Adebutu said former President Olusegun Obasanjo and interim Head of State Ernest Shonekan from the South-West region have been Nigerian leaders at separate times.

He, however, advised the Yoruba people not to be selfish but to support the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 general elections.

Adebutu stated this during a campaign to garner support for his governirship ambition and that of Atiku on Monday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

He said, “What I want to talk about today is the coexistence of the Yoruba people with others in Nigeria.

“Earlier, I told some people to support Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the next president for the peace of Nigeria but some people turned deaf ears; they insisted that it is the turn of the Yoruba people but the Yoruba people have been in power for a number of times.

“Our father Olusegun Obasanjo was in power. Our father (Ernest) Shonekan was also there. Let’s not be selfish. Is it only Yoruba that exists? The truth must be said.

“We cannot take Yorubaland out of the mainstream of Nigeria. Yorubaland must remain in the mainstream of Nigeria.

Those in attendance at the rally on Monday include Adebutu’s running mate, Adekunle Akinlade; former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau; and his Niger State counterpart, Babangida Aliyu; amongst others.

The Federal Government has announced plans to re-open the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) that was closed down by Shell since March 2022 due to crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

The TNP is a major pipeline that transports about 180,000 barrels of crude oil daily and also transports one of Nigeria’s premium grade crude oil, the Bonny light to a designated export terminal.

The Group General Manager of the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), Bala Wunti who revealed this through his Twitter account @BalaWunti said as part of efforts to re-open the TNP, his team visited the people of Bodo Community in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, a host community.

The meeting he said was monumentally significant as it provided his team the opportunity to re-connect with the good people of Bodo Community.

The NAPIMS boss explained that the TNP is a critical infrastructure in the crude oil export, hence “our presence today is part of NAPIMS efforts towards re-opening the nation’s major liquid hydrocarbon delivery atrium, which has been under force majeure (closed) for over six months.”

Wunti said the meeting was part of the company’s continuous journey to re-strengthen its trust with one of the communities where NAPIMS and its partners were conducting business.

The pipeline also serves as part of the country’s gas liquids evacuation infrastructure, which is vital for domestic power generation and the export of liquified gas.

It would be recalled that in recent times there was an outcry by the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), Mele Kyari, and other industry players about the rising levels of crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism along major pipelines including the TNP

In March of this year when no recoveries could be made at all from all major pipelines, a force majeure was effected to shut down.

2023: Call Tinubu To Order – Rivers APC Tells Buhari Over Candidate’s Romance With Wike

2023: Tinubu Speaks After Buhari Revealed Candidates He Will Support For Election

President Muhammadu Buhari has been asked to call to order the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu and governors elected on the platform of the ruling party over their relationship with Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.

The party stakeholders in a joint statement made available to Naija News on Monday said it is embarrassing that its leaders are rubbing shoulders with their opponent in the face of the 2023 general elections.

At a one-day consultive meeting held in South-South over the last weekend, the stakeholders comprising national assembly and state house of assembly candidates and other party faithful said it perceived as unfortunate that big wigs in the party, including Tinubu, came to Rivers to join Wike who is their clear opposition in inaguration of state projects.

The development, according to them is simply glorifying Wike and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) camp and could be considered an anti-party activity.

They warned that these events are heaping praises on Wike ahead of the 2023 general election.

Presiding over the meeting held in Port Harcourt on Sunday evening, APC National Vice Chairman of the zone, Chief Victor Giadom, said Buhari must call the leaders to order immediately.

On his part, the state APC legal adviser, Dike Iheanyi Zubi said it was unfair for Governors of the South-West to hold nocturnal meetings with Wike and return back to their states without bothering to an interface or speak with their party members in the state.

Zubi further said the action of Tinubu who has held meetings with Wike abroad and the action of the governors concerned were tantamount to anti-party activities and called on President Muhammadu Buhari to call them (Tinubu and the South-West governors) to order.

He said, “It is very discouraging for the APC here in Rivers State to see a situation where the presidential candidate of our party, Ahmed Bola Tinubu and his handlers, including South-West Governors of the APC coming to the state to undermine our party here in Rivers State.

“And they begin to hobnob and hold nocturnal meetings with Wike, who is seen as a contender with the APC here in the state.

“So, we as APC members here frown at such action because it doesn’t encourage us here. We consider it as anti-party on the side of Ahmed Tinubu and his cohorts.

“Instead of coming to strengthen the Rivers State chapter of the party, they are busy hobnobbing with Governor Wike, who is a PDP member. For the APC in Rivers State, we see it as an affront and anti-party.”

“So, I call on the national chairman of the party and President Buhari to call him (Tinubu) and his cohorts to order. They should stop dividing the Rivers APC. APC is one family,” Zubi added.

2023: I'll Compare Tinubu To Awolowo, Azikiwe, Ahmadu Bello - Al-Makura

Former Governor of Nasarawa State, Tanko Umaru Al-Makura, has compared the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to the leaders of the First Republic.

Speaking with reporters on Monday, Al-Mukra said Tinubu is in the same cateogry as Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, Ladoke Akintola, and Sir Ahmadu Bello.

He said Tinubu has also played a prominent role in helping Nigeria secure its independence, adding that he sacrificed his time and comfort for the sake of democracy.

Al-Makura pointed out that the former Governor of Lagos State has mentored a lot of young leaders and has continued to be relevant in politics and governance.

He said: “Look at the way he mentored people. I call him a mentor of mentors. You can liken Tinubu to our leaders of the First Republic. The Sardaunas, Akintolas, the Awolowos, the Azikiwes, who made people what they were at that time.

“And this to me is a leader that is cut in their image. Talk about any prominent Nigerian.

“Get a number of prominent Nigerians that have excelled and attained certain very enviable positions, you find a substantial number of them were mentored by Tinubu. Examples are all over the place to see.”

2023: Tinubu’s Work Out Video Being Circulated Without His Knowledge- Umahi

The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has claimed that the workout video of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, was being circulated without his consent.

In a statement released alongside the video, Tinubu stated that he is strong, healthy and ready to serve Nigerians from day one in office.

Many have said I have died; others claim I have withdrawn from the presidential campaign.

“Well… Nope. This is the reality: I am strong, I am healthy and I am READY to serve Nigerians from Day One,” he had said.

But speaking on Monday during a guest appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme, Umahi said the APC presidential candidate’s video shouldn’t attract unnecessary attention.

The Ebonyi governor added that Tinubu is fit to lead the country in 2023, asking Nigerians to disregard rumours of his ill health.

Umahi said many Nigerians questioning his state of mind for the nation’s top job are being petty.
