Anxiety In Yari’s Camp As Matawalle Concludes Plans To Join APC

Zamfara

The planned defection of the Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle has stirred anxiety in the camp of the former state Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, who is also the leader of the All Progressives Congress in the state.

Recall that the former state Governor had once cautioned Mattawale against joining the APC ahead of the 2023 election.

A source in the state that spoke with Daily Trust, noted that the defection of Matawalle is being delayed due to the position of Yari towards him.

The source further stated that when the discussion for the defection of Matawalle started, Yari was not contacted, a development that got him pissed.

“The former governor does not want Matawalle to join the party. He is all out to scuttle it but he cannot stop it because it has gotten the blessings of the national caretaker committee of the party and even the Presidency,“ he said.

Meanwhile, the spokesman of the former Governor, Ibrahim Birnin Magaji said there was no anxiety in their camp, saying they are not bothered.

“As far as we are concerned, this is mere rumour. We will respond when it is official,” he said.

Matawalle on Tuesday night while speaking on his planned defection to the APC said, there is an ongoing consultation for his political fate insisting, however, that it was not a definite decision yet.

“There is nobody that I told I am moving to any party. But as someone who is well-groomed in politics, I feel it is only fair to intimate my people about overtures towards me and seek their own thoughts and opinions,” he said.
