Anambra Road Accident Claims Two, Injures Scores

A road accident occurred at Tempo, 300 metres away from Odumodu junction, along the Nteje-Onitsha Expressway, Anambra State, late on Tuesday.

It was a lone crash, involving a commercial Toyota Sienna with registration number: LND502YE belonging to Young Shall Grow Motors.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver, who was on speed, lost control of the vehicle which somersaulted after hitting a pedestrian crossing the expresswa, and crashed.

It was gathered that seven persons were involved in the crash – four male adults and three female adults.

The sources said one person in the vehicle and one pedestrian – a female who was crossing the road – died while four male adults and one female adult sustained varying degrees of injury.

Confirming the accident on Wednesday, the acting Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Margaret Onabe, attributed the possible cause of the crash to excessive speeding.

Onabe said the FRSC first responders at Nteje rushed the injured victims to Beatrice Specialist Hospital, Umunya, where the victims were confirmed dead.

She said, “The FRSC personnel at RS5.33 Nteje Unit Command on the ground managed the traffic and ensured obstruction caused by the crash was cleared.

“The Sector Commander, Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, sympathized with the families of the dead victims and sent his prayers to the injured persons.

“He urged motorists to maintain a safe speed, drive within the speculated speed limit, to arrive at their destination alive. Kill the speed now before it kills you.”
