Anambra 2021: ZLP Unveils Governorship Candidate, Calls For Debate
The Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, has unveiled its governorship candidate for the forthcoming November 6 election in Anambra state.
The ZLP announced Dr Obiora Okonkwo who is a russian-trained political economist and serial entrepreneur as it’s candidate.
Naija News reports Okonkwo hails from Ogidi, Idemmili North Local Government Area of the state.
Unveiling him as the party candidate in Abuja on Wednesday, ZLP National Chairman, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, said the party picked him as its choice after consultations with stakeholders in the party.
Nwanyanwu said Okonkwo had the necessary pedigree, exposure, and experience to steer the affairs of Anambra.
Consequently, he called for a debate of the top five political party candidates in the election.
He said, “Anambra state here we are. It is going to be a tough battle. We have some candidates of other parties who are pretending to be candidates; whose candidates have been jaundiced by their faulty nomination process.
“We want a situation where the first five parties would be subjected to a thorough scrutiny and debate.”
Also speaking, the ZLP Governorship Candidate said he was worried that Anambra state has not actually progressed in terms of infrastructural and human capacity development since 1999.
“We are certainly as concerned that our dear Anambra state has been left behind on key development indices despite the huge sums of money that flow into the state from the federation account along with internally generated revenue by way of the various taxes and rates that our hard-working people pay,” Obiora Okonkwo stated.
