Akpata: Obi’s endorsement to my candidacy worth gold — I make no bones about it
Olumide Akpata, Labour Party’s Edo governorship candidate, says he values Peter Obi’s endorsement highly, calling it “worth its weight in gold”.
Akpata shared his thoughts during an Arise Television interview on Thursday.
The Edo governorship election is set for September 21, covering 18 LGAs.
On Wednesday, Obi rallied Edo residents to support Akpata, promising positive change for the masses if elected.
Akpata credited Obi with boosting his campaign. “Peter Obi is making a whole lot of difference because he is one individual that people trust. People trust because he’s what his bond.”
“I will leverage Obi’s backing,” Akpata said. “He only supports candidates he trusts. We’ve campaigned together across the state, and his presence inspires hope.”
Akpata expressed optimism about the election’s conduct. “Now with regard to the umpire, the regulator INEC, I am hopeful…”
He highlighted benefits of the off-cycle election, allowing INEC’s undivided attention.
However, Akpata said that the capacity concerns linger, adding that umors of disruptions and material theft is worrying
Akpata, who questions INEC’s ability to navigate Edo’s challenging terrain.
The LP candidate voiced concerns about logistics and potential disenfranchisement.
Akpata concluded, “We’ll continue engaging with operators and scrutinizing the system.”
Exuding confidence, Akpata declared his election readiness, citing strong public reception of their campaign message.
