Video: The evil about to befall Nigerian citizens ~ A wake up call

By Buchi Noel Loris of DeErudite Media.

The Federal Government Of Nigeria, in a frantic attempt to muzzle Nigerian citizens through whom power was given to them, is about to sign into law the NGO regulation bill.

The bill, which is a stranglehold on the freedom of the citizens, has purportedly passed second reading in the legislative houses, and currently about to be passed into law.

Our legislators are about to blindly take action that will undermine the liberty of the masses. Could it also be said that the import of the impending action is lucid and pellucid to them, but they choose to fatuously take this step that will haunt even them when they eventually get out of the corridors of power?

This law is punitive, totalitarian in consequences and anti-democratic, hence should not be allowed to see the light of the day.

The implication of this bill is that any fund collect for the betterment of a community or individual’s life must be subject to the government’s approval. Churches, Mosques, etc must get permission from the government before they undertake the action of collecting money to service the members of their congregation who are in need. And this permission is subject to renewal after 2 years.

Again, any group of individuals wanting to establish an organization for the benefit of their members must seek the approval of the government, and the government reserved the right to accept or reject such request.

This ridicules sections 32 and 40 of the 1999 constitution and grants excess power to the government to determine which organization should be licensed and which should not.

The legislators should not allow this bill to be signed into law. They should stop it now and allow the people to enjoy their freedom of association.
