Buhari Offers Helping Hand To South Sudan, Tells Them To Ask For What They Need
President Muhammadu Buhari has offered to help South Sudan achieve political stability.
Femi Adesina, the president’s spokesman revealed that Buhari had made the ‘pledge to offer a helping hand at a bilateral meeting with the president of South Sudan, Salva Kiir, on Tuesday, Oct. 5.
The president promised to serve as a bulwark in South Sudan and help in actualizing prosperity and long-term stability. The president told South Sudan to take Nigeria into confidence and ask what the country can do to help them.
He said: “Nigeria will contribute its quota as much as possible to the development of South Sudan.
“Take us into confidence and ask us what we can do.”
President Buhari also spoke on the importance of developing countries supporting one another and investing in sectors such as education and healthcare to bring about a better economy.
The Nigerian leader said that other countries must see fit to offer a helping hand to Guinea and Mali to ensure that democracy as the world knows it remains unscathed.
He also stated that he was concerned over the instability in Sudan and that if the nation continued in its dire state there will be a continuous increase of arms in the Sahel.
President Kiir thanked Buhari for his support in the liberation struggle in Sudan and also appreciated the Nigerian first lady for her support in the education of so many South Sudanese girls.
He said: ‘‘In West Africa, ECOWAS intervenes immediately whenever a country has a problem. That should be adopted in East and Central Africa,’’
