Why ARTMA Disciplinary Committee Fires 5 Adhoc Officers In Onitsha

The Anambra State Road Transport Management Agency ARTMA disciplinary committee yesterday, outrightly fired 5 (five) of its Onitsha based Ad hoc officers for misconducts.

Following detailed feedbacks from a motorist, they were able to narrow down on 5 of its Adhoc staff who extorted the user on the road.

Mrs Okeke Chinyere(not real names) was wrongly impounded by the officers. Knowing very well that If Mrs Okeke Chinyere is brought to any of our ARTMA base , she would be released immediately and they will be penalized because they do not have a convincing video of her offense, they tried to play a smart one.

They threatened her that she will pay over N90,000 (ninety thousand naira) if she gets to the office and then convinced her to pay N25,000 (twenty-five thousand naira) on the road.

Mrs Okeke Chinyere was smart enough to pick the unique number on the vest of one of the officers and called the customer care number. Today, those officers were made to refund the money in full to Mrs Okeke Chinyere and lost their job permanently.

Mrs Okeke Chinyere in her words appreciated the efforts of the ARTMA management in dealing with her complaints.

We advice road users both commercial and private to abide by the road signs and don’t panic when wrongly apprehended, just drive them to any of our offices and the video of your offence MUST be shown to you before you pay any fine.

We will continue to pick out the few bad eggs in the agency so as to serve ndi Anambra better.

The 5 (five) disrobed officers are

  1. Nwafor Emeka – 266
  2. Kosarachukwu Chinedu- 259
  3. Aniekwe Obiora – 277
  4. Nnamdi Ifeanyi- 272
  5. Areh Uche Okechukwu- 272

In a related development, the management of ARTMA held a meeting with representatives of the shuttle drivers who complained of inadequate road signs around the Onitsha metropolis. Those signs according to them made it very difficult to know exactly where to park or not.

Responding to the complaint, Mr Okeke Obinna ( Dir training and Head emergency response unit) assured the shuttle riders that in less than 7 days, all bus stops in the metropolis will be installed as some have already been fixed on the borromeo roundabout to upper-iweka axis.

Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezekwu appreciated the representatives of the shuttle riders for the coordinated dialogue and assured them of the agency’s maximum support.
