UPDATES: Jose Peseiro Officially Quits as Nigeria’s Super Eagles Coach, Pays Tribute to Team
Jose Peseiro has officially stepped down from his role as the head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
This move comes as his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) reached its conclusion on Thursday.
Peseiro, a seasoned Portuguese coach, took to his social media platform on X to announce his departure, extending his heartfelt appreciation to the NFF for the opportunity to lead the esteemed Super Eagles squad for nearly two years.
Peseiro’s tenure with the Super Eagles was marked by dedication, sacrifice, and immense enthusiasm, spanning 22 months. Reflecting on his journey, Peseiro expressed a deep sense of fulfillment and gratitude towards the NFF’s leadership, including past and present presidents Sir Amaju Pinnick and Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, and Secretary Dayo Enebi.
He particularly highlighted the privilege of working alongside the players, whom he described as the core reason for the team’s successes and joy during his leadership.
Under Peseiro’s coaching, the Super Eagles reached the pinnacle of African football by securing a spot in the final of the African Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast earlier last month.
