Troops on search for missing commander, neutralize two bandits, recover arms, ammunition

The Nigerian Army said on Thursday that troops from the 93rd Battalion had initiated a search and rescue effort for a missing officer in action.

On May 20, 2022, the army got a distress call reporting that the Tati village was being attacked and razed by suspected bandits.

While on the hunt for the bandits, the criminals ambushed the forces.

Six gallant soldiers were murdered during the fierce struggle, while the leader was missing, and the army killed four bandits while others ran into the forest.

However, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director Army Public Relations, stated in a statement on Thursday that the forces had initiated a search for the missing officer.

He also stated that a reinforcement team from 6 Brigade deployed against the fleeing bandits at Ananum village, in Donga Local Government Area of the State, neutralized 2 additional bandits and recovered one Ak 47 rifle, one pistol, one locally fabricated gun, 2 AK 47 Magazines, 19 rounds of 7.62 mm special, 7 rounds of 9 mm ammunition and 3 motorbikes.

The statement appealed to residents of Taraba State to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement to security agencies.
