Another shop owner and victim of the inferno said he and his neighbours only met their goods in ashes at the time they arrived at the market.
The cause of the fire could not be ascertained at the time of the report, but eyewitnesses and victims of the fire said the inferno destroyed multi-million naira worth of goods among others.
“The fire incident was caused by a fuel tanker that entered the station to offload fuel,” an eyewitness said.
It was gathered the owner just purchased the tanker, which was on its first trip to discharge petrol.
The fire started at about 2:00 am and the state fire service succeeded in quenching it around 5 a.m.
