Reasons why Obiora Okonkwo resigned from PDP.

The former governorship aspirant in Anambra State gubernatorial election under the platform of People’s Democratic Party-PDP, High Chief Obiora Okonkwo has given the reasons why he left the party.

In a statement dated July 24, 2021, the former governorship aspirant pointed to general lack of party discipline, fairness, and due conduct of party affairs as one of the reasons for his resignation.

He also mentioned apprarent manipulation in the conduct of the Party’s last gubernatorial primaries in Anambra state and never ending plethora of court cases tearing the party apart which the national leadership apparently is incapable of addressing, such that the party runs the risk of presenting a candidate for the November 6, gubernatorial election in Anambra state as other part of the reason.

He further stated that the unlawful dissolution of the structures of the party in Anambra state from wards, Local Government to the State level by the National working committee of the party which was a clear violation of the Party’s constitution and disobedience to interlocutory order of FCT court issued on the 25th of June, 2021 also formed part of the reasons.

He, however, expressed sadness that he resigned from the party which he had contributed so much in, and affirmed that he’s moving to a place that will afford him the chance to continue to contribute to the development of Anambra State.
