Popular Nigerian Influencer Arrested, Detained Over Accusations Against Evangelist Ebuka Obi

The Nigeria Police Force has detained Chizorom Harrison Ofoegbu, widely known by his online alias, Ijele Speaks II.

Ofoegbu found himself in the crosshairs of the law following his public accusations against Evangelist Ebuka Obi, a figure he claims performs fake miracles and exploits religious beliefs for personal gain.

Ofoegbu’s contentious post on X, a platform renowned for spirited discussions and revelations, did not mince words as he labeled Evangelist Obi a fraud and called for his arrest, accusing him of converting his religious platform into a commercial venture. He questioned the enforcement of the criminal code and criticized the intertwining of religious figures with political maneuvers, suggesting a quid pro quo relationship between pastors and politicians that manipulates public funds and influences election outcomes.

The post sparked reactions, leading to the intervention of the Nigerian Police. Authorities in Abuja responded by inviting Ofoegbu for questioning, citing allegations of criminal intimidation, threats to life, cyberstalking, and cyberbullying towards the pastor. Despite complying with the police invitation, Ofoegbu was not released. Reports confirm his subsequent transfer to the Keffi Correctional Centre in Nasarawa State.

This case has ignited debates on social media freedom, the intersection of religion and business, and the role of law enforcement in mediating such disputes. Efforts to obtain further details from the police were met with a request for in-person inquiries in Abuja, indicating a tight-lipped approach from the authorities on the matter.
