PDP crisis: Wike announces decision on defection calls

Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has declared his intention to stick with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In response to requests for him to leave the party due to the ongoing crisis, the governor announced his stance on Thursday.

Wike spoke at the Government House in Port Harcourt during a gathering of PDP state stakeholders.

“We will do the fight in the party. We are not like them, when in 2014 they walked out from Eagle Square. They’ve forgotten. They walked out and joined APC.

The Rivers helmsman said those who run away from fight are weak people and that he would not do so.

The governor noted that the constitution of the party clearly states that elective and party offices must be zoned.

“You have taken the presidential candidate, you have taken party chairman, you have also taken the DG of the campaign. We are talking about party politics.”

Wike said decisions are made by the presidential candidate, party chairman and the DG of the campaign.

“You can put pressure on the BoT chairman to resign when his tenure hasn’t come to an end. But you cannot put pressure on the chairman to resign”, he added.
