NIMC Gives Latest Updates on NIN Registration Procedures

The National Identity Management Commission has disclosed plans to lessen the time used to register at its enrolment centres across the country.

The Director General of NIMC, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, during a presentation of new enrolment devices to the commission by the of the Korea International Cooperation Agency Nigeria Office, on Tuesday in Abuja, said the commission is exploring several measures to equip its field offices with cutting-edge devices to upgrade its centres.

This is coming after the commission temporarily suspended Front-End Partners from engaging in the National Identification Number enrolments.

This is because the commission is currently carrying out a revalidation exercise of these third-party registration centres.

It also said the NIMC has identified multiple infractions and unwholesome practices in the processes of National Identity Number enrolment and modification.

Coker-Odusote said KOICA is assisting the country with 222 devices to be deployed to NIMC enrolment offices across the country with support services for the devices for one year.

She said, “These devices will make a great difference in our state office. It will be used in our enrolment offices. It will create a very appreciable difference.

“The devices are very modern and have the best specifications available now. This will help our offices as some of the devices are older and slower as technology moves quickly.”

Our correspondent gathered that the solution followed complaints of a slow registration process and network failures faced by applicants during enrollment.

Speaking at the event, the Country Director of KOICA, Son Sungil, said the provision of the devices was to forge a stronger partnership with NIMC and to make sure the e-government project it is working on would be quicker and be a flagship for other projects nationwide.

“The support we have made is one of many things we have done. It will not be the end of the partnership we have and we are expecting some other more interesting and important activities to come such as the partnership on assistant development of architecture and the initiative planning and strategic development establishment on key policies of NIMC,” he said.
