Katsina state imposes curfews after protests turn violent

  • The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, will conduct regular patrols to enforce the curfew

The Katsina State Police Command has begun enforcing a directive imposing a 24-hour curfew on Dutsinma Local Government Area and a 7pm to 7am movement restriction across the remaining 33 local government areas.

The measure follows violent outbreaks in parts of the state during the nationwide protests that started on Thursday. Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Sadiq, explained that the 24-hour curfew in Dutsinma is aimed at ensuring public safety and preventing further violence, vandalism, and looting.

The statewide 7pm to 7am curfew seeks to prevent nocturnal crimes and maintain order.

Sadiq reported no casualties during Thursday’s protests but noted that around 50 individuals were arrested for involvement in the destruction and looting of public property. He urged parents and guardians to advise their children against participating in illegal activities, including violent protests and vandalism.

The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, will conduct regular patrols to enforce the curfew. Violators will face strict consequences. The public is urged to cooperate with security forces and remain indoors during curfew hours to help maintain peace and order in the state.
