Illegal Mining: OCHA Brigade Seals off Site at Naija Head Bridge, Onitsha
The Ocha Brigade’s enforcement team has taken action by sealing off a sand mining site at Naija Head Bridge, Onitsha.
This action was prompted by the site’s failure to provide an environmental impact assessment and other necessary government-approved documents.
This move follows numerous warnings and notices issued against illegal mining and related activities throughout the state.
Chief Celestine Anere, the dynamic MD/SG of Ocha Brigade, has reiterated the brigade’s commitment to apprehending offenders. Such activities have been identified as significant contributors to environmental hazards and degradation, endangering the state.
Mining operations in the state have been linked to 60% of erosion and landslide incidents in Anambra State, impacting properties in various communities and posing challenges to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s efforts towards a livable, healthy, and prosperous homeland.
