Our Lady Of Assumption Catholic Cathedral, Nnewi, was inundated with both human and vehicular traffic, on Thursday, February 10, 2022, as the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi installs His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr Jonas-Benson Okoye, as the new Bishop of the Diocese.
The installation started with a holy mass officiated by a Bishop, and had in attendance a number of Bishop from other Catholic diocese across the globe.
It also recorded the presence of some notable personalities within the country, including the incumbent and the elected governor of Anambra State HE, Chief Willie Obiano and HE, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo respectively. Others in attendance include: The National Chairman of APGA Chief Sir. Victor Okoye, former National Chairman of APGA party and the former Anambra central senator, Senator Victor Umeh, The current Anambra Central senator, Senator Dr. Iyom Uche Ekwunife, Senator representing Anambra south, Senator Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, among others.
Until his appointment as the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi, His Lordship, Most Rev. Jonas Benson Okoye, was the auxillary Bishop of Awka diocese.
He was born in Kaduna to Adazi-Nnukwu parents on January 25, 1963.
He was ordained a priest in 1992 by His Grace, Archbishop A. K. Obiefuna at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Adazi-Nnukwu.
He was consecrated a bishop at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka on August 29, 2014.
