CHELSEA FORWARD TO RECEIVE A NEW CONTRACT.

FRANK LAMPARD IS ENSURING SQUAD DEPTH REMAINS AS NEW SIGNINGS ARRIVE.

Chelsea has a situation at hand – squad management. The team is rather inflated, and as new signings arrive; Lampard may be poised to prioritize his regular starters. Consequently, who leaves and who stays is yet to be seen.

Their most recent development about signings has happened as Kai Havertz has moved to Stamford Bridge. The German is the most expensive signing in the Premier League off date, with his transfer fee adding up to € 100 million including add-ons.

But Havertz plays as both as a right-sided midfielder and a striker. As a result, another striker, Michy Batshuayi may find himself in hot water. However, Frank Lampard is not ready to give up on him and is ready to offer a fresh contract to the Belgian.

CHELSEA HAVE A STRIKER PROBLEM

Frank Lampard has assembled a team of cannons, courtesy Abramovic. The trio of the new signings Havertz-Werner-Ziyech has a goal tally of 60 with 43 assists last season. The 3 along with Pulisic, almost force Tammy Abraham in the back seat.

Tammy Abraham has had 24 goal involvements for Chelsea this season. In a squad struggling with injuries, Abraham ensured the ship didn’t sink without first-team stars. His stellar performance against Espirito Santos’s Wolves was one of the many that secured Chelsea a seat in next year’s Champions League.

Yet so, the 22-year-old looks set to play second fiddle to such an explosive offense. Below him in the pecking order sits Michy Batshuayi, who will struggle for a game-time even more. Needless to say, a ‘striker problem’ may mess up the squad without proper dressing room management.

BATSHUAYI HAS A DECISION TO MAKE

Michy earned the sobriquet “Batman” for his sudden runs leaving chasing shadows. He did it at Selhurst Park, in Spain as well at Stamford Bridge. He has 77 appearances for the blues with 25 goals and 6 assists. If the injury time crisis has a panacea – it is the ‘Batman’.

As a result, ank LampTard is ready to offer the Belgian a fresh contract at £ 100,000 per week. In his 22 appearances last season, he has played 311 minutes, scoring thrice and assisting once, with 1.3 shots per game – a stat worthy of second chances. (source: WhoScored)

However, the Belgian may seek more game time from the former English midfielder. He knows both the EURO and the World Cup are due next year. Selectors and coaches will be monitoring players as Lukaku and Mertens both continue to perform. The 26-year-old thus is most likely to be loaned out after a contract is agreed upon.

LAMPARD ON BATSHUAYI

Frank Lampard has been desperate to see the Belgian netting more frequently. After the Hull game in January, he didn’t shy away from insisting that Michy needs to step up. Though Batshuayi had scored in that match, Lampard expects much more, especially from a player with great promise.

“I want to see to him performing, at this level you’re judged on scoring goals and I know he can do that so it’s good to see it,” the English manager had complained. As his team sheets now have much more muscle than what they had a few months ago, he may expect Michy to be more of a contingency plan.

As all teams focus on squad depth, Chelsea will look to cement the back-ups that they have. But more game time and perhaps national team ambitions may influence Mitchy Batshuayi to ponder over his long term future at the London-based club.
