2023: Your Ranting Didn’t Come As A Surprise – Lagos PDP Slams Wike For Endorsing Sanwo-Olu

2023: We Are Not Surprised With Your Rant - Lagos PDP Slams Wike For Endorsing Sanwo-Olu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has slammed Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, over his comment endorsing his counterpart in Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Naija News reports that Governor Wike had earlier endorsed Sanwo-Olu for another term in office. This he did on Tuesday when he visited the state.

The Rivers State Governor shunned PDP’s gubernatorial candidate in Lagos, Olajide Adeniran, also known as Jandor, saying that contesting against the incumbent governor of the state is nothing but a waste of time.

Wike pitched his tent with Sanwo-Olu while speaking at the 22nd National Women’s Conference organized by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO).
According to him, the Lagos Governor had raised the standard of governance with the quality of projects delivered across Lagos.

Reacting, to Wike’s claims, PDP in a statement issued on Tuesday evening by its Publicity Secretary in Lagos, Hakeem Amode, said the Rivers State Governor’s rant didn’t come as a surprise.

The party leadership said it would have been disappointed if Wike had attended any event “without his usual rant of a drowning man who will clutch at straw.”

The statement read: “I only wonder how Governor Wike, who didn’t support Jandor and at the same time couldn’t stop him from picking the party ticket in Lagos, despite his supposed might within the PDP, would apportion to himself the decision of generality of Lagosians in the forthcoming election.

“While we won’t but acknowledge Governor Wike’s developmental strides in Rivers State which have witnessed an influx of other state chief executives including Sanwo-Olu for commissioning, it is worrisome that Wike will call Sanwo-Olu a performer without asking how many times he has invited anyone to Lagos for the commissioning of an ordinary borehole in his almost four years in office as Governor.”

You And Sanwo-Olu Will Be Ex-Governors Next Year

Confident of winning the gubernatorial election in Lagos State, Amode said Jandor will defeat Sanwo-Olu in the forthcoming election, and render the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate jobless after the polls.

The opposition party said: “My dear Governor and leader, we promise to render Sanwo-Olu jobless and send him to the club of you former Governors next year. Only God, who has seen Jandor and Lagos PDP this far, and the generality of Lagosians, can determine his fate at the polls in 2023, not your endorsement.

“We will continue to sell our breath of fresh air agenda to Lagosians with the promise of a better tomorrow. Lagos needs a breath of fresh air.”

The motion marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1729/2022, was dated and filed on Sept. 27.

Maina (the applicant) listed the Minister of Interior and Controller General (C-G) of Nigerian Correctional Services Centre as 1st and 2nd respondents respectively.

He also prayed for an order granting him leave to effect the service of the order, the originating motion and other subsequent processes on the respondents by substituted means.

Justice Ekwo after reviewing the application granted leave for Maina to effect service of the order and other processes on the minister through any member of staff of Ministry of Interior, Abuja.

The judge also directed that all processes for the C-G be delivered to any officer of the Correctional Services Centre at the Headquarters in Abuja.

Justice Okon Abang of a FHC had, on Nov. 8, 2021, convicted and sentenced Maina to eight years’ imprisonment for misappropriating N2 billion pension fund while serving as chairman of PR.

Maina was arraigned in 2019 on a 12 count charge bordering on alleged stealing of pension funds and money laundering.

Arewa Group Denies Endorsing Any Political Party, Tell Northerners To Be Vigilant

A different faction of the Northern leadership group, the Arewa Forum of Conscience has distanced itself from an alleged endorsement of a presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.

Naija News learnt that the Coordinating Committee Chairman of the group, Musa Getso, in a statement on Tuesday told northerners to be vigilant against the schemes of paid groups presenting its position as the stand of the people of the North.

The statement read: “We have watched keenly and with concern, the discreet moves by a particular presidential candidate to sponsor a contracted northern endorsement for him.

“We are aware that the move has led to a meeting called by the Arewa Consultative Forum, a section of the Northern Elders Forum and other peripheral associations in Kaduna on Saturday, October 15, 2022.

“We are also aware that the invitation extended to other political parties candidates was a mere smokescreen as all clandestine arrangements have been concluded for the groups to announce the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Atiku Abubakar as a sole northern consensus candidate.

“We feel obligated to respond to this unwholesome, destabilizing move by a people who are so desperate as not to mind the consequences of further causing general disaffection by exploiting the nation’s regional, religious and tribal diversity.

“Let it be known from the outset that it is not in the character of the North to engage in counterproductive sectional politics as contemplated by Atiku and his paid groups of people who call themselves elders and leaders of Northern Nigeria.

“We hereby on behalf of the larger majority of the northern population call on the Nigerian public to disregard any pronouncement suggesting that any candidate, not the least Atiku Abubakar has been endorsed as a sole northern candidate.

“We tell the world that any such pronouncement from anybody or group is not made on behalf of the people of northern Nigeria who have been known for playing cosmopolitan and pan-Nigerian politics.”

He added that Tinubu’s intellectual prowess, pedigree, administrative acumen, competence and experience are very important to Nigeria’s growth.

Asefon also remarked that “Tinubu’s presidency would be a great blessing to the entirety of Nigeria as he possesses the leadership qualities needed to transform Nigeria, looking at how he changes the fortunes of Lagos State for the better,” adding that if given the chance, Tinubu will do same with Nigeria what he did to Lagos state.

The group’s coordinator, who is the immediate past National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), said “It is no longer news that Nigeria will be going through an electing year in 2023 during which the country is expected to witness another transition period in the political leadership of the most populous black nation of the world.

First Husband To Yul Edochie’s Second Wife Surfaces, Demands For His Children

The alleged ex-husband of Judy Austin, who is now Yul Edochie’s second wife, Obasi has cried out following his inability to gain access to his two children.

The father of two reached out to an online platform, Street Journal, where he pleaded for help to have access to his children.

Obasi revealed that he married Judy when she was 19 and they welcomed two beautiful children together.

He said that he catered for her, ensuring she got a degree as that was what she had always wanted.

Obasi alleged that Austin and Edochie started dating in 2012 while she was still married to him.

He further claimed that trouble started when Judy wanted him to rent an apartment for her while she was schooling in Enugu, but he refused since he had established himself in Onistha.

The action, according to Obasi, prompted her to pack out with their kids.

Obasi further revealed that though he was fulfilling his responsibility as a father before Austin and Edochie wedded, she still cut off all access from him and denied him from seeing his children.

Obasi noted that he has reported the issue to Human Rights in Onitsha, but he did not get positive results.

He then pleaded with the general public that all he wants his to be allowed to see his kids, adding that he is not comfortable with Austin raising his children alone.

He also appealed to the Nigerian legal system to have mercy on him and intervene so that he can have access to his children.

Why Southgate Needs To Consider Smalling For World Cup – Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has urged England head coach, Gareth Southgate, to take Chris Smalling into consideration for his World Cup team.

The three lions will compete in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar alongside Wales, Iran, and the United States in the same Group.

The Portuguese coach claimed that Smalling has done enough to earn a spot in the England manager’s squad for Qatar in an interview with Dailymail.

“He was taught to play in a two-man defence in Manchester, but now he’s got the perfect acumen to play in a three-man backline,” he said.

“If I were the coach of a national team, I would do anything to have someone like him at my disposal.”

The former Manchester United defender has 31 caps for England and has scored once. In 10 Serie A games, Smalling has scored three goals.

Mourinho added, “I don’t think it’s a lack of respect to Southgate when I say I feel sorry for a player who’s playing at such a high level like Smalling and who won’t get the opportunity he deserves.”

Members Of State Assemblies Have Turned To Governors’ Puppets – Omo-Agege

Members Of State Assemblies Have Turned To Governors' Puppets - Omo-Agege

The Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has claimed that members of the various State Houses of Assemblies have become puppets of the Governors.

Naija News reports that Omo-Agege, who is the Chairman of the Senate Constitution Review Committee, made the claim on Tuesday at a media briefing in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The lawmaker stated some governors are working to turn state assemblies into their political puppets in order to control them to do their bidding.

Omo-agege also accused some governors of frustrating the efforts of the constitutional amendment process through the speakers of the state houses of assembly.

The lawmaker said only 11 out of the 36 states have considered the constitutional amendment bills which were transmitted to houses of assembly in March.

He said: “We want to ensure everyone understands this. The national assembly is in no way averse to acting on any proposed bill or memoranda appropriately tabled before it, at any time in its life.

“Let us be clear. The bills the national assembly transmitted to the State Houses of Assembly as required by the constitution are not about members of the National Assembly.

“It transcends our personal and political interests. It is about the people who have graciously given us the temporary privilege to serve them. The offices and positions we each hold belong to the people. And they yearn for a government that is honest, accountable, and responsive to their needs.

“It is, therefore, disheartening that some state houses of assembly, through the conference of speakers, would give the national assembly conditions before fulfilling their constitutional obligations.

“Although the conference of Speakers did not allude to it in their letter, we are aware of the undue interference with legislative processes and the political capture of some state houses of assembly by some state governors.

“No doubt, some state governors have worked tirelessly to turn the conference of speakers and some state assemblies into political puppets, thereby undermining and delegitimising the legislative institution at the state level.

“This interference has been ramped up, especially in opposition to the bills granting financial and administrative autonomy to local governments.”

Contesting Against APC’s Sanwo-Olu In Lagos A Waste Of Time – Wike Warns Jandor, Rhodes-Vivour, Others

2023: Wike Picks Candidate To Support For Presidency

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday openly endorsed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State for a second term in office.

Naija News reports that Wike endorsed Sanwo-Olu despite his political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), fielding Olajide Adeniran, also known as jandor, as its governorship candidate.

The Rivers Governor pitched his tent with his Lagos counterpart while speaking at the 22nd National Women’s Conference organized by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO).

The event, with the theme: “Spring Forth, Stand Out,” was held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Another PDP leader and former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, accompanied Wike to the event.

While rating Sanwo-Olu high in performance, Wike noted that the Lagos Governor had raised the standard of governance with the quality of projects delivered across Lagos.

According to him, any political party contesting against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos would be wasting time, as Sanwo-Olu’s performance would outshine anyone campaigning against him.

He said he had no regrets for openly endorsing Sanwo-Olu, stressing that his endorsement of his Lagos colleague was borne out of his conviction about good governance.

Wike said: “If Sanwo-Olu is not doing (well), even if he belongs to my party, I will not come here. If you belong to my party and you are not doing well in governance, you won’t see me. If you don’t belong to my party and you are doing well, you will see me. Good governance is what I stand for. I will not regret to say that I am in support of you (Sanwo-Olu) for second term. Others should not waste their time.

“Look at the kind of project coming from this women’s group. Why would any reasonable person not support the Government that is encouraging this? Let’s also look at the kind of physical infrastructure being delivered in Lagos. This confirms Lagos as a State of excellence. There are some people who will come here; instead of them to continue to make Lagos improve, they will bring Lagos down. For me, I’m satisfied with what Sanwo-Olu has done, and it doesn’t matter the party he belongs to.”

Responding to Wike’s endorsement, Sanwo-Olu described it as another example of “politics without bitterness.”

He said Lagos and Rivers states had learned from each other regarding projects and development, adding that both states would continue to cooperate on shared interests.

He said: “There is no better person that is fit as a guest speaker at the conference other than the hardworking Governor Wike of Rivers State. We brought him here to share in his experience and also for him to see what we are doing in Lagos.

“We are encouraging collaboration without bitterness and without talking about our parties or political differences. If you are doing well, it doesn’t matter where you belong. We should encourage peer review across parties.

“Gov. Wike had invited me to Rivers for projects commissioning in the past. We have challenged ourselves in a positive way; this is good for the growth of our politics and the nation.”

Naija News reports that Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour is also contesting for Lagos State governor on the platform of the Labour Party.

Zamfara State government led by Governor Bello Matawalle has confirmed the arrested of no fewer than eighty persons over their alleged involvement in banditry activity.

The suspects, including women, were nabbed by security agencies who were combing the state for criminal elements, Naija News reports.

Giving details about the arrest, Chairman of the Committee on Prosecution of Banditry and Related Offences, Abdullahi Shinkafi, while addressing the media on Tuesday, said the suspects were arrested in connection with terror groups.

Some of them, according to Shinkafi, were found to be informants, and suppliers of food, drug, military camouflage and police uniforms to the terrorists while some were directly involved in banditry, kidnapping for ransom and illegal possession of firearms.

Shinkafi disclosed further that security agencies were already investigating their level of participation in criminal activities in the state and its neighbourhood.

”Others have already been charged to court to face charges of their involvement”, Shinkafi said.

He explained further that the resurgence of banditry and kidnapping was due to the bombardment of camps by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

The chairman said a number of the outlaws were neutralised or dislodged from their hideouts. He confirmed that insecurity was part of the reasons the government suspended political rallies and campaigns.

Shinkafi condemned the recent murders in Gusau, Tsafe, Gummi, Bukkuyum, Anka Bungudu, Maru, Maradun and Kaura Namoda local government areas.

“Government is also touched by the killings of some of our gallant security operatives who lost their lives in our defense”, the official said.

Tottenham Boss, Conte Sends A Message To Ronaldo Ahead Of United Clash

Tottenham manager, Antonio Conte has expressed hope that Cristiano Ronaldo maintains his subdued performance ahead of Wednesday clash against Manchester United.

In 12 appearances for the Red Devils this season, the Portuguese forward, who was ranked 20th in the best male player category for the year 2022, has only registered two goals.

Due to Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial’s solid performances, the 37-year-old has fallen in manager Erik ten Hag’s priority list.

The former Juventus striker scored 6 goals in the UEFA Champions League and 18 goals for Manchester United in the domestic league, among which he scored a hat-trick at Old Trafford against Tottenham.

Prior to the match against Manchester United, Conte said, “Last season he scored a hat-trick against us.

“We’re talking about an incredible player, a top player. We’re talking about a player who continues to make a difference for the team in which he plays.

“I have a lot of admiration for Cristiano, for his professionalism, but I hope he will remain calm, not like last season, when he scored three goals. We lost 3-2, but we lost to him, not to United last season. I remember that very well, because we played a very good game.”
