Anambra State House Of Assembly Passes Anti-Open Grazing Bill Into Law.
Anambra state house of Assembly has passed into law the bill that prohibits open grazing within the nooks and crannies of the state.
The bill was passed during one of its plenary sittings on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at the state House of Assembly complex, Awka.
The bill provides for the establishment of ranches in the state and provides the procedure for such establishment.
The also bill makes it an offence for a person or persons to engage in open grazing within the state.
It also also makes it clear that any person or persons who run afoul of any section or sub-section of the bill is/are liable to different degrees of punishment, including 2 years imprisonment or fine of two hundred and fifty thousand or both.
It also states that if such contravention leads to damage of farm crops or property, the owner or manager of such livestock will pay the monetary evaluation of such damage(s).
The speaker, Rt.Hon. Uche Okafor, appreciated the members for taking a huge step to end the menace associated with open grazing in the state.
