Breaking: Suspected Armed Herdsmen Attack Transport Vehicles In Okigwe, abduct passengers (Videos)
The fact that the security situation in the country is now very precarious is no longer news as it’s obvious even to a casual day-old visitor in Nigeria.
Daily we hear news of killings, destruction of facilities and abduction of citizens, even school children. It has got so bad that even the security architectures of the country seem overwhelmed by the current situation.
From activities of the killer herdsmen, to Boko Haram terrorists, to bandits on highways to that of the secessionist agitators, it has been one bad news of mayhem to another.
In the light of this prevailing security challenges, today 10th June, 2021, Okigwe, a bustling town in Imo state witnessed another devastating activities of the people of the underworld as two commercial vehicles conveying passengers were attacked. An 18 seater bus and a Toyota sienna mini bus were attacked today on their journey as they were passing Okigwe. According to an eye witness, the driver of the 18 seater bus, “three of my passengers were kidnapped while all the passenger in the sienna bus in front of my own vehicle were kidnapped and the abducted passengers were matched into the forest”.
However, De Erudite Media gathered that some of the passengers in the attacked vehicles were later released.
Narrating her ordeal, one of the of the occupants of the 18-seater bus that was also released said, “they (the kidnappers) released some of us and held unto those they believe their families are wealthy. They released me because I told them I am pregnant”. She was visibly shaking from the trauma of the encounter.
The occupants of the Sienna mini-bus which were released too were too distraught to make any statements as they were panting and crying when the by-standers and reporters who had gathered questioned them. The question as to whether they were physically abused were also left unanswered.
However, it was noticed that their phones were still with them as our correspondent who gathered the information reported that the released passengers could be spotted making calls with their phones as they tried to contact their loved ones after coming out from the forest.
