Nigeria’s Rugby Ambassador, Princess Ugonwaezeh-Agugo, Launches PASYDA Programme in Ukpo, Anambra State
In a continued effort toward youth grassroots development, Nigeria’s Rugby Ambassador, Princess Alban Ugonwaezeh-Agugo, has expanded her outreach in Anambra State through her foundation, the Princess Alban Ugonwaezeh Sports and Youth Development Academy (PASYDA).
Amb. Princess Ugonwaezeh-Agugo and her crew on July 13, 2024, paid a courtesy visit to HRM Igwe Dr. Robert C. Eze (Okofia VI) of Ukpo and his Royal Cabinet in Dunukofia Local Government Area, Anambra State, to raise awareness about Rugby.
UKPO, an ancient town known for its rich cultural heritage and hospitality, boasts notable philanthropists such as Prince Arthur Eze (Ozoigbondu), Hon. Sir Chukwudi Okeke (Ikpoaku n’ Ukpo), and Charles Oramalu Onwuche (Economist and Political Strategist).
For Princess Ugonwaezeh-Agugo, the visit was a homecoming, having spent much of her childhood at the palace while her mother taught at Central School, UKPO.
The ambassador was delighted to reconnect with old friends and peers at the palace.
Significantly, PASYDA aims to promote Rugby not only among the youth but also to attract potential investors and partners to support and sustain its programmes.
This initiative seeks to ensure the longevity of the programmes through extensive support and partnerships.
During the visit, HRM Igwe Dr. Robert Eze warmly welcomed PASYDA, offering his royal blessings and pledging his support to Princess Ugonwaezeh-Agugo.
Addressing the royal cabinet and attendees, the global sports Icon, accompanied by Chief Iyom Ngozi Obikwelu (Iyom Ugochimelueze n’ Agu-Ukwu), founder of Solution Kitchen, Mr. Paul Vincent (PASYDA Rugby Coach), and other PASYDA staff, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and emphasized the significance of PASYDA’s programmes in UKPO and beyond.
“UKPO is not just a community but a home for me as well. There’s more to UKPO for me to explore beyond writing or mere speech,” remarked Princess Ugonwaezeh-Agugo.
In response, to the Palace Protocol, Ichie Ekene Anolue (Ichie Ifechidelu) thanked Princess Ugonwaezeh-Agugo and her team for creating a platform that empowers the youth through sports and skills development.
“UKPO Community of Dunukofia welcomes you and will surely partner with you to ensure our children’s inclusion in your enriching career enhancement programs. Thank you for coming home again,” stated Ichie Anolue.
