2023 PEPT Judgment: Tribunal Fines Three Political Parties For Filing Frivolous Petitions
The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal PEPT has reportedly fined three parties for filing frivolous petitions challenging the results of the February 25, 2023 presidential election.
The PEPT stated that for wasting the time of the court on frivolous election petitions, ruled on Wednesday, September 6th, 2023 the political parties including the Allied People’s Movement APM, the Labour Party, and the People’s Democratic Party PDP have been fined therein in line with the Judicial act 87, subsection 390 of 1968 (as amended)
The fines are as follows: Allied People’s Movement APM: N13.6 million only
Labour Party LP: 47.9 million only.
The People’s Democratic Party PDP: N23.3 Million only
The learned judges also advised the fines be paid within 48 hours after the judgment is given into the consolidated account of the Appeal court lodged at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
