Joe Biden yet to fulfil his promises to Nigerians as the new president of United States.
President- elect Joe Biden said that when he takes over the saddle on January 20, CNN reported, his administration will scale back implementation of a variety of executive orders ratified by predecessor Donald Trump. The travel ban on citizens of several predominantly Muslim countries, a memo by incoming White House staff chief Ron Klain said Saturday, is prominent among hundreds of regulations to be scrapped on Mr. Biden’ s first day at the Oval Office.
” President-elect Biden will take action not only to reverse the Trump administration’ s most serious damage but also to begin moving our nation forward, ” the CNN correspondence from Mr. Biden’s top aide said.
President Trump banned immigrants from Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen, most of whom are Muslim, in the early days of his presidency.
Mr. Trump listed Nigeria, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Sudan, and Tanzania on the early 2020 list, citing security concerns.
The ouster of the Trump administration at the hotly contested November 3 presidential polls, has been touted as a huge relief to Nigeria and its global counterparts which have been on the receiving end of the rigidity of the outgoing U. S. leader– notorious for negotiating America’s interests with threats of aid cuts.
Long before his victory was firmly confirmed by the authorities, President Muhammadu Buhari and a few other world leaders immediately congratulated Mr. Biden.
It is widely expected that the Biden presidency will strengthen bilateral relations across the board.
