2023 poll: Tinubu reacts to alleged plot to sack Adamu, sideline APC from campaign council

Presidential candidate of the ruling All progressive congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu says there is no iota of truth in media reports that wants the National Chairman of the party Sen Abdullahi Adamu removed ahead of 2023.

Speaking yesterday while presenting the report of the presidential campaign council structure at the party headquarters in Abuja, he assured that the chances of the APC in the 2023 poll are not in any way threatened by the people’s democratic party (PDP), the labour party, the new Nigeria peoples party (NNPP) and other opposition political parties in the country.

Tinubu faulted the notion held in certain quarters that he had sidelined the Sen Abdullahi Adamu-led national working committee (NWC) on the constitution of his campaign council.

Tinubu who alongside his running mate Sen Shettima Kashim met behind closed doors with the Sen Adamu-led NWC for over three hours remarked that his presence at the party headquarters speaks volumes of his resolve to work in concert with the party to actualise his presidential ambition in the 2023 poll.

He said: “To the rumour manufacturers, I read in some papers about a disagreement between myself and the chairman and that was a very big lie. They didn’t know that we have come a long way. The big masquerade dance is not in the cage but in the market square.

“And that is what Adamu use to be, full of wisdom, we were governors together before God put us together on this project again. He is going to deliver as the Chairman of the party for me to become the president of Nigeria. And I am very confident of that.

“They can say whatever they want to say, throw all the jabs that they want, we are a party strongly determined to fulfil our dreams of turning Nigeria to a very progressive, highly developed, prosperous country.

“What we came here today to do is to discuss the campaign which is a few days away. When INEC will lift the ban, how do we work out the details, work together, implement all we have been saying, who are the members of the campaign council, who will not be members, and I beg you not to be angry if you are left out because we are going to give you another responsibility. Not every member here can be a member of the presidential campaign council.”

He thereby charged the party leadership to scrutinize the report on his campaign council and make necessary inputs to ensure the victory of the party at the poll.

Tinubu who fielded questions from reporters after the parley with the party officials reiterated the determination of the APC to sweep the 2023 poll.

He added: “We are not threatened. We are committed and we are very proud of ourselves, we are orderly manner, we are committed to democratic principles and values; we are not bickering in any way and you know that.

“Can you say that of the other parties? We are not spilling fake statistics and wrong figures, can you say that of other parties? Well, we are what we are, a progressive party.

“This meeting is to consult further, the organisation structure for the campaign for us to harmonize any fear and to make sure that we have an inclusive all party and all hands on deck to make sure that we are victorious during the election.”
