2023: Make The Right Calculations - Bishop Kukah Sends Important Message To Nigerians About Candidates

The Catholic Archbishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah has emphasized the need for Nigerians to vote for the right type of candidates in the 2023 general elections.

He also urged Christians in particular not to be worried by the decision of some political parties in picking certain candidates for the elective posts, reminding them that power lies in the hands of the electorate. Kukah who made his submission while speaking in Yola, Adamawa State at the 2022 Church Leaders Summit added that the parties should, however, remember that every decision has consequences. The cleric stated that Nigeria has already gone through a lot and it is very important that the right type of leaders get into power in 2023. The Bishop warned against the attempt by some persons to play the religious card in 2023, saying Nigeria must come first. In his words, “We have to all make the right calculations and not be swayed by emotions. “Because after all we’ve been through in Nigeria, we must avoid a mentality of ‘us versus them’. “Nobody is going to force you as a Christian to vote one way or the other. “And as I said, I’m moving away from this binary view of Christians and Muslims. That’s not who we are as Nigerians. That’s not what happens in the marketplace or across the country. There are no Christian roads, no Christian thieves or Muslim saints. “For me, I don’t see how any Christian – I’m sorry to say – should be worried about the choice that a political party has made. Whatever decision any politician makes, they will live with the consequences.”
